Annual Maintenance

Accidents happen. As a moderately hard stone when compared to granite, marble can scratch, stain and lose its polish over time.  lose some of its lustre, To keep counters looking like new, York recommends calling an expert such as Nicola Capomasi of Thor & Partners for an annual polish and maintenance treatment.

Finish Selection

Thor & Partners can also change the finish of your counter during this process. The most popular marble finishes are polished and honed. Polished marble has a bright, glossy surface that reflects light. A honed finish looks matte and has a more satiny-feeling. The great advantage of honed marble is that while it  that is smooth and velvety to the touch. Honed marble is more porous and stains more easily than polished, surface marks don’t tend to show. Conversely, polished marbles can stain less but etch more. You may choose to change the finish of your marble to prevent future staining or etching based on your lifestyle and what tasks you perform on or around your marble surface.
